Motivational Monday: Wake Up and Seize the Day 08/08/16 | How many times have you been exhorted to “carpe diem”? Originally a Latin phrase, “carpe diem” has become a widely recognized expression intended to motivate people to action. Although the phrase may be overused, the idea of seizing or taking ownership of the day, is both powerful and effective. Rather than trying to muster up some motivation to take on tomorrow, try waking up thinking about the potential the day may hold instead. Start with your thoughts. Release your inner dreamer and allow yourself to think in terms of new possibilities. You alone have the authority to decide what your day looks like. And once you take a hold of that truth, it’s empowering. Norman Peale, American author and minister, once said “Change your thoughts and you change your world.” This sentiment is more than just an inspiring quote; the way you think really does determine the direction of your life. And if you make the effort to maintain a positive perspective about your day, leaning into the possibilities, rather than being fearful of harm, you may find yourself surprised. This kind of perspective can quickly turn unexpected circumstances into an opportunity. No one or thing has the authority to dictate your day, mood or well-being unless you allow it to. Only you get to decide how you wish to respond, even when things get messy or hard. So how will you take ownership of today?
