Motivational Monday: Habits of Virtue 08/29/16 | It comes once a week, every week. It will forever. And still many of us continue to dread it, some for a lifetime. How miserable. Can you imagine living a whole life plagued weekly by a self-induced bummer-of-an-attitude? Some of us don’t have to imagine. Some of us live it every Monday with no plans for improvement. I’d like to make a deal with those of you in this category. For one month—that’s today until September 22nd—I want to alternate the Monday’s we dread. Don’t worry, that still gives you two Mondays to despise all you like. But starting today we’re going to really like every other Monday. I mean genuinely like them, no acting, no pretending (I know some of you are better actors than others, but believe me, you’re only fooling yourself.) Today, we’re gonna get up and go get ‘em. We’re going to be exceptionally productive. We’re going to do it with a smile. And we’re going to like it. At least once today, we’re going to take on a task and get a rush of exhilaration. We’re going to feel it course through our veins like a raging river of pride and purpose. We’re going to live that moment and ride it to the end of the day. And when we get home, we’re going to brag a bit about our accomplishments. After today you should be set for the week. Feel free to fall back into your funk before next Monday; you’ve earned it. But I suspect it will come with some hesitation. When you begin to encourage the habits of virtue, the habits of vice begin to suffocate. With enough practice you will snuff them out. Encourage the habits of virtue every other Monday for one month, and I bet you’ll find that each successive Monday shines brighter and more beautifully than the one before.
